PURPLE,A CELEBRATION OF PRINCE@UnionMashUp SAT 4TH JUNE@bluebeany @DarrenDjd77

On the second of April I organised a Prince night called “Purple”. that was weirdly inspired by Bowie dying, I wrote the following –
“Basically I decided I wanted to do this because after Bowie’s death we all re evaluated his back catalogue and realised how amazing it all was, so what I would like to do is re evaluate Prince’s back catalogue and celebrate his work while he is still alive .. A night playing nothing but his music, and including music he’s written for other artists such as Sheila E , The Family and The Time. – If you’re a Prince fan, come and celebrate with us. – Paul Weymes x”
It was a brilliant night and I cant believe that less than three weeks later I’m writing that Prince has died. So Im organising another Purple night on June the 4th at Union Mash Up. However this time ALL the door take will go to the British Red Cross and the entry fee will be £6. I’ll send invites when the event page is up.
Oh and the Bowie Roxy night that Anna and I were doing has been shelved as we’re using the nights booking at union mash for the Prince night .. we’ll do that another time.purple4jun

STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON @UnionMashUp THUR 28TH APRIL@HullIndieCinema @HU5_life

Hull Independent Cinema and Union Mash-Up present: Straight Outta Compton (cert 15) (Dir: F. Gary Gray)

This screening is run by Union Mash-Up in partnership with HIC. Please note the later start time of 8pm. HIC members MUST bring their membership cards with them to claim the member discount price.

In the mid-1980s, the streets of Compton, California, were some of the most dangerous in the country. When five young men translated their experiences growing up into brutally honest music that rebelled against abusive authority, they gave an explosive voice to a silenced generation. Following the meteoric rise and fall of N.W.A., Straight Outta Compton tells the astonishing story of how these youngsters revolutionized music and pop culture forever the moment they told the world the truth about life in the hood and ignited a cultural war.

Nominated for the Best Screenplay Oscar and winner of two Black Reel awards among many others. In English.

“As enlightening as it is entertaining, as sobering as it is exhilarating, Straight Outta Compton reminds viewers not only who N.W.A. were and what they meant, but also why they mattered – and still do.” Washington Post

“The NWA story is told in the style of a luxe, classic-era studio biopic. And it’s scintillating.” Little White Lies

Our brilliant headliner for this evening is the amazing Peter Brush, an incredible act with amazing comedy talents.

We are opening the show with a first for comedy mash. We have the brilliant comedy play ‘Captivated’ written by John Gilbert that debuted in the comedy festival and was highly rated.

A highly distinctive performer and deft writer of finely crafted jokes, Peter Brush unassumingly takes the stage with his slight bespectacled frame and scruffy hair, before consummately conquering it with an arsenal of razor sharp quirky one-liners and peerlessly original routines, all delivered in an amusingly awkward fashion.

In 2015 he performed his debut solo hour ‘Older Than The Oldest Dog That Ever Lived’ at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, receiving 4*+ reviews. That year he also performed as part of the prestigious ‘Big Value’ showcase run by Just The Tonic.
