The next “AWAY WITH WORDS” open mic evening will take place at Union Mash Up, the epicentre of the cultural earthquake that is the HU5 post code area. This “genre busting” evening has been bringing you the best spoken word performers since long before Rosie Millard typed Hull back into her satnav. The event will henceforth be referred to as the “Low Priority – Hull City Arts” one.
Poets, performers, comedians and spectators are welcome to the cosy intimate surroundings of the upstairs bar at Union Mash Up on Princes Avenue, Hull.
Come along and perform your poetry, prose, comedy, jokes, satire in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
This month our guest performers are Jenn Hart and Henry Raby. Jenn is a DIY poet, feminist and self-proclaimed wizard. An Archimedes Screw champion and Ejector Seat slam champion 2013, she has performed at various poetry events in the South including Apples and Snakes ’451′, Freeway Poets and Archimedes Screw as well as festivals such as Boomtown Fair, PULSE and Galtres.
In June 2014, she released her first collection in a DIY zine form called ‘Scraped Knees and Sob Stories’ available on bandcamp. Jenn also plays bass for feminist punk/blues band Viva Zapata!
Henry is a performance poet, theatre-maker and play-wright. He has performed across the country at various gigs, poetry nights, festivals and arts events, as well as touring his solo show. Recurring themes in his writing are friendship, home, growing up and dinosaurs.
